  1. Recap of the Previous Issue
The last installment elaborated on the pathological logic of three types of wind pathogenic factors affecting the human body: external wind disturbs defensive Yang, internal thief wind generated by chronic emotional turmoil and improper diet, and latent wind rooted in congenital endowment. All wind evils take hold fundamentally due to stagnation and disorder of the whole-body Qi circulation. The previous chapter solely discussed the waxing and waning of Yang within a single day and wind invasion. This issue digs deep into the general principle of topological transformation of Yin and Yang Qi, explaining the root causes of illnesses triggered by Qi imbalance. This article only expounds philosophical and medical principles; detailed practical cultivation techniques will not be elaborated in writing.
  2. Original Classic Text + Plain Vernacular Explanation
    Full Original Text
Qi Bo said: Yin stores essence and supplies energy promptly; Yang guards the exterior and consolidates the body.
When Yin fails to restrain Yang, the blood vessels surge rapidly; accumulated Yang mania will occur. When Yang fails to restrain Yin, the Qi of the five zang-organs clashes, and the nine orifices become obstructed.
Therefore, the sages harmonize Yin and Yang. The tendons and vessels flow smoothly, the marrow is solid, and Qi and blood circulate unobstructed. Under such conditions, the interior and exterior are balanced, pathogenic factors cannot harm the body, hearing and vision remain sharp, and primordial Qi endures steadily.
The key to Yin-Yang balance lies in dense and stable Yang. If the two fail to harmonize, it is like spring without autumn, winter without summer. Harmonizing them is the supreme sage’s standard of health preservation. Exuberant Yang that cannot stay restrained will exhaust Yin essence. Only when Yin is tranquil and Yang is confined can spirit and essence be well-regulated. Once Yin and Yang separate and break apart, essence and Qi will be depleted entirely.
Wind invades and disturbs Qi circulation, leading to depletion of essence; overeating loosens the tendons and vessels; excessive drinking reverses the flow of Qi; overtaxing the body injures kidney Qi.
Damage by wind in spring causes severe diarrhea in summer; damage by summer-heat in summer brings intermittent malarial fevers in autumn; damage by dampness in autumn triggers coughs in winter; damage by cold in winter leads to warm febrile diseases the following spring.
Moderation in the five flavors strengthens bones and softens tendons, keeps Qi and blood flowing freely, and tightens the skin and interstitial spaces. In this way, bone and marrow essence are abundant. Abiding by this Dao and its methods, one may retain vitality for a full natural lifespan.
    Plain Vernacular Explanation
Qi Bo clarified the core functions of Yin and Yang respectively: Yin governs ascent and storage of essence, continuously supplying energy for whole-body Qi circulation; Yang governs descent and guards the body surface, restraining primordial Qi inside from leaking out and blocking external wind-cold pathogenic factors from invading.
If ascending Yin cannot restrain outward surging Yang, blood and Qi rush through vessels at an accelerated pace. Yang stagnates in the upper jiao and cannot descend, resulting in restlessness, irritability and mania. If descending Yang lacks restraining power and cannot hold back stagnant ascending Yin, Qi of the five zang-organs clogs and collides, blocking the nine bodily passageways.
Those who comprehend the great Dao of health preservation guide and harmonize ascending and descending Yin-Yang Qi. Tendons stretch comfortably, bone marrow essence fills fully, and Qi-blood circulates smoothly. When interior and exterior Qi blend in equilibrium, all turbid pathogenic factors have nowhere to attach. Hearing and vision stay acute, and innate primordial Qi remains stable and undiminished.
The core essence of Yin-Yang harmony is that descending Yang must stay compact and restrained, never floating freely to consume Yin essence. A fractured Yin-Yang circulation is equivalent to a year missing half its seasonal cycles. Proactive harmonization of the two is the supreme health-preserving standard recorded in Huangdi Neijing.
When Yang surges excessively and loses its descending restraining power, internal Yin essence will drain away continuously. When Yin ascends moderately and Yang descends to contain it, mind and essence stay calm and stable. Once the two Qi streams split apart completely, fundamental essence will dry up and life force is severed.
Wind pathogenic factors disrupt the descending function of Yang and deplete Yin essence; gluttony clogs the middle jiao passage for ascending and descending Qi; excessive alcohol reverses the trajectory of Yin-Yang circulation; overexertion drains kidney essence and damages the foundational ascending power of Yin.
External seasonal pathogenic factors do not trigger illness immediately after invasion; they lurk deep within collaterals and condense into crystalline stagnation. When seasonal Qi rhythms shift, latent pathogens erupt along with Qi movement to form illnesses.
Balanced intake of the five flavors without bias reinforces bones, softens tendons, enables smooth Qi-blood circulation, tightens skin and interstitial spaces, and fills the five zang-organs with essence. Abiding by this principle preserves primordial Qi.
  3. Personal Cultivation Insights (Essence-Jing-Crystal Notes, Vectored Force Network Theory)
This article defines Yin and Yang purely based on the movement of Qi, abandoning static Yin-Yang dialectical frameworks from traditional medical texts.
The human body originates from innate primordial Qi. Qi that ascends without reaching the turning point of descent belongs to Yin; when Qi rises to its peak and turns downward, this descending momentum is defined as Yang. One ascent and one descent form "One Generates Two"; the neutral fusion of Yin and Yang evolves into the three-stage transformative process. All physical ailments of the human body are superficial manifestations of imbalanced topological transformation of Yin and Yang Qi, consistent with the law: The Dao generates One, One generates Two, Two generates Three, Three generates all things.
Qi circulation never runs straight vertically. The human body is a vectored force network woven by multiple layers of internal and external spirals nested and twisted together. The two ascending and descending spirals interlock and coil around each other, so Yin always harbors Yang and Yang always contains Yin in circulation; there exists no purely isolated Yin or Yang. This principle can be easily illustrated with the mountain-climbing metaphor: vertical elevation represents the fundamental general trend of Yin ascent and Yang descent, yet mountain trails wind and loop repeatedly. The topological structure of human Qi is far more intricate than mountain paths, with multi-dimensional collaterals intersecting and intertwining. Once circulation passages become blocked, fluid congeals into essence, essence accumulates into crystals, collaterals develop solid stagnation, and lesions emerge.

Herbal decoctions, five-element herbal compatibility, and conventional Yin-Yang dialectics prevalent in the market can only dredge pre-formed crystalline stagnation within a single dimension and temporarily reconcile local Qi, which merely treats symptoms, not root causes. The two root pathologies of stagnant fire and physical deficiency both stem from fractured topological circulation: insufficient ascending power of Yin leads to Qi stagnation in the middle and lower jiao; weak descending restraining power of Yang lets turbid Qi float upward and block the upper jiao. Qi cannot flow up or down, and long-term stagnation generates internal heat. A long-term disconnect between ascending and descending Yin-Yang passages drains the whole-body force network continuously, gradually weakening the physical form.
There are no independent, isolated illnesses in the world. All sicknesses are merely external states manifested by disordered topological circulation of Yin and Yang Qi. Total collapse of the whole spiral circulation and breakdown of the force network mark the end of life. Extreme stagnation burns collaterals from internal heat, and Qi dissipates abruptly. Though symptoms vary vastly, their core root is broken topological circulation. Force and energy follow conservation laws and never vanish; they merely return to the origin of heaven and earth, while the tangible physical form dissolves away.
To fundamentally eradicate congenital latent wind and chronic crystalline stagnation, one must perform topological retroversion, reverse the tangled multi-layer spiral Qi of the whole body, and restore a complete closed loop of Yin ascent and Yang descent. Refining Essence into Qi, Refining Qi into Spirit, Refining Spirit to Return to Emptiness is the authentic transmission of this reverse topological transformation. This article only breaks down the underlying principles; in-depth practical cultivation methods will not be elaborated in writing. Readers interested in immersive cultivation practice may communicate privately.
The three types of wind discussed in the previous chapter all arise from imbalanced topological circulation of Yin and Yang: external wind first breaks the defensive restraining power of Yang, causing vulnerability of the body surface; acquired internal thief wind originates from dietary and emotional disorders disrupting the ascending rhythm of Yin, leading to chaotic middle jiao Qi; congenital latent wind is rooted in innate defects of the human spiral force network, weakening the fundamental Yin-Yang circulation framework. When Yin-Yang Qi circulates evenly and smoothly, the three types of wind have no place to settle and take root. No crystalline stagnation blocks the whole-body collaterals, the interior and exterior defend themselves naturally, and all pathogenic factors fail to invade.
  4. Full Article Summary
Yin governs ascent and storage of essence, while Yang governs descent and bodily consolidation. Imbalance between the two leads to floating Yang-induced mania, congested five zang-organs, and obstructed nine orifices. The human innate primordial Qi circulates relying on a multi-layer nested double-spiral topological force network. Blockages in circulation passages cause fluid to congeal into essence and essence to accumulate into crystals, giving rise to all illnesses. Herbal decoctions and five-element compatibility only dredge superficial stagnation and address symptoms temporarily. The fundamental cure lies in topological retroversion, repairing the complete closed loop of Yin ascent and Yang descent. Long-term harmonization of whole-body Qi and stabilization of balanced topological circulation deprive the three types of wind of any dwelling space. Unobstructed whole-body collaterals repel all pathogenic factors, forming the permanent foundation of health preservation.
